Staff Training and Education Prgramme – STEP 1
The Association of Fine Jewellers first rolled out the STEP 1 course in 2015. Designed by a highly accredited team; Mary Bourke and Padraic Lavin, this course will greatly
assist candidates who are new to the jewellery industry as well as offering a facility to those existing sales assistants who wish to enhance their practical experience to date with a formal certification. The course content encompasses a wide range of topics relevant to retail jewellery sales and will equip its candidates with an intermediate level of product knowledge and therefore a greater confidence and ability when handling sales of diamonds, popular gemstones, watches and other pieces.

Our course focus extends to the actual business of ‘selling’, best practice around customer retention and care, together with the more practical matters such as; security, complaint handling, presentation and confidentiality. Upon completion of this course, candidates will receive a certification which will be recognised among over 100 Association of Fine Jewellers members in Ireland. It includes both theoretical and practical work and concludes with an examination and formal certification award. A timescale of nine months is allowed to complete the course and there will be two one day workshops to be given by the course creators which will be included in the cost. Course will commence each January.

STEP 1 COURSE DAY 2018
The first STEP1 COURSE DAY takes place on Tuesday 17th April in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise. The day starts at 10.30am sharp, so if you can aim for 10.00am. Coffee/tea will be served in the room at 11.30am. Lunch is soup and sandwiches in the main restaurant at 1pm (all included in the course). Mary and Padraic will advise you of the finishing time. Students, I hope you enjoy your day with two of the best in the business.
